what about using bootvis or just editing the startup list in msconfig? Or in the registry at hkey_local_machine (and hkey_current_user)\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run (and runonce). this program also misidentified an “ok” program (ctfmon – more info here – http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=282599 ) as harmful spyware from CoolWebSearch, when it is not.
Gave it a try (after scanning the download for virus) and the app wants me to disable “mcafeeupdaterui” which it associates as “eUniverse KeenValue parasite related”. I run McAfee and suspect mis-identification so I researched. I have none of the Registry Keys, Processes, System Folders or files referenced to the parasite. Nonetheless, I’ve disabled, but I’ll be watching my McAfee Update closely. After rebooting my Win2K, I saw no performance improvement.
