World’s first Private Spaceport in Mojave

Posted by geeknews at 6:59 AM on May 25, 2004

Mojave Airport to become the first licensed private Spaceport. We all know that the 2 leading competitors to the X-Prize competition work out of Mojave. In the late 80’s I lived in California and flew around the state in a King Air quite a bit and may have toured the Scaled Composites plant. If I remember it wasn’t much of a plant more like a small hanger. But to think that the Mojave Airport
could be the first private spaceport blows me away. For those that have never been Mojave it is pretty isolated. I just wish I could remember for sure why my employer had me out there in the first place, some things you really remember some you don’t. Guess I’m getting old :) [Slashdot]
