Area 51 Investigator goes underground!

Posted by geeknews at 4:21 AM on May 26, 2004

I am a very proud and loyal American. I support the principles of this country and would never do something that would put me under Uncle Sam’s scrutiny. As a citizen I pay taxes to Uncle Sam so that my children and I sleep well at night knowing that the government is watching our backs and doing the things that keep us on top of the technology power curve. So I am not all sympathetic
when I hear about some knuckle head messing around with government sensors out in the desert.

Everyone has seen the movies and heard the rumors about Area 51 and I am sure their are a lot of people that would give their eye teeth to visit the site. Uncle Sam has the area restricted for a reason and that is good enough for me. When someone is out there digging up sensors in my opinion that is bordering on treason. So I have no qualms when someone messes with federal property
I would expect the FBI to find out if the individual is a curious george or a foreign spy.

We all are entitled to our opinions and are responsible for our actions. You are free to do a lot of things but people need to realize their are consequences to actions such as this. [The Register]

If this is the same article I was reading last night, the sensors that the guy dug up were off the Area 51 property, ie on the roads leading in to them. Furthermore, he took pictures and put the sensors back.

One would also think that if the person were a spy, that he wouldn’t be putting the pictures up on a web site, nor would he be documenting the history of the site for the world to see (check out the rest of the site, it is quite interesting) :)

And, speaking from a political standpoint, everything the government does, it should be held accountable for. If the cost is a bit of transparency that doesn’t otherwise harm anyone, the population is all the better for it.

I have to agree with Sean and mr man. I don’t neccessarily agree with what they did. But if we blindly accept whatever Uncle Sam does — well, you get what you deserve I guess. I say question everything. Hold everone accountable. And take care of yourself.
