My experience is that it is the Feed where Bloglines has its bugs. I.e., a couple of hundred feeds are not a problem. But when you sign up with a large new feed, e.g. the register, wired news, it initially shows up as 200 unread. clicking on the feed fails. but if you ever get the feed to "get far enough" then it will mark all those entries as read and start working fine. If Bloglines just had a way to mark a new feed as "all read" then I think it would obviate this problem.
I reported it to bloglines but just got a bot response.

I have about 100 feeds I check daily. Sometimes I have to wait a little, but if I don't load all the feeds at once but one category and sometimes even a feed at a time, I have on one hand greater control over what I actually read right now, and on the other hand I can still use the scrollbar...

I monitor 252 feeds in Bloglines. Most of them are customized search feeds that I only check occasionally. The key seems to be organizing the feeds into folders. You can then read the posts in smaller chunks. This doesn't seem to slow it down as much. I do notice an increase in load time when I accidentally hit the top level folder when I have a couple hundred unread posts that all download at once.
