Time Warner HDTV and the Explorer 8000HD

Posted by geeknews at 2:32 PM on October 11, 2004

My mom lives in a rural area and they get their TV service from Dish. Recently their old TV blew up and they went shopping for a new set. The salesman at Sears did a good job and I hope they did not get sold a bill of goods with the new HDTV they purchased. A lot of people have been getting all anxious about HDTV but the experience of some have a lot to be desired. [advancedmediacommittee.typepad.com]

A significant amount of debate in the comments many con and some pro. It should be noted that many TW subscribers have had great experiences with the Explorer 8000HD

I have one (not the HD version) but as a DVR/PVR it works great. The interface is a bit clunky somtimes (with three clicks to delete, and limited control over scheduling shows) it still does the job and costs me less that buying my own TiVO. It’s got a firewire port on the front, but haven’t bothered to search out what i might be able to do with it (since the manual and time warner’s website makes no mention of it).
