Trackback ping caused site alignment issue

Posted by geeknews at 2:35 AM on November 23, 2004

Weird first time we have ever had a trackback ping cause a formatting issue on the site. Luckily the Podcast listener that sent the trackback let me know and we were able to clear it out…

Can I ask a stupid question? What are track back pings, and how are they important to me?

    Hi Zep,

If you are writing a blog entry that in someway talks about something another blogger wrote about, then you need to try doing a trackback.

I was writing a post about pubsub. Todd had already posted about pubsub and I wanted to give him credit for introducing me to it. So, after I wrote my post, I sent Todd a trackback ping. What that does is stick my blog post URL onto Todd’s weblog under the trackback section. So if anyone is reading Todd’s post, they will see my link there and can click through to my post.

It’s a neat way of making connections between bloggers.

Unfortunately, my trackback ping URL was quite long, and it caused alignment problems on the front page of geeknewscentral, That’s wierd, and not something to worry about normally.
