Shopping for new Hosting Provider

Posted by geeknews at 1:50 PM on February 15, 2005

Ok folks I have had it up to my eyeballs with my current hosting provider they are just not meeting my expectations.

So here is what I am looking for.

1-100gb Minimum Bandwidth
2-Add Multiple Domains to the same account
3-Running a current version of Perl
4-True 24/7 Support
5-Minimum of 10 MySQL accounts with 20mb storage

If you are a hosting provider or are familiar with one that has these minimum standards let me know. The GoDaddy offer would have been perfect except for the fact that they only allow one domain per hosting account.

I have just discovered vizaweb.com. I don’t use them yet, but I hear good stuff about them. I am not sure if they offer multiple domain names though. The host I am using now is personalsites.org. I have had no problems with them and they allow multiple domain names, but I think they kind of specialize in low bandwidth sites.

I’m hosted by surpasshosting.com, and they work for me! they have a few plans, among which a 100GB traffic /month for $165 a year. Check it out here: http://www.surpasshosting.com/hostingplans.php

You know, one thing that I am surprised more podcasters aren’t using is archive.org. If you license your podcast under a Creative Commons license, you can host your files on their server for FREE with no bandwidth questions.

You can get the archive.org python license managemnt and publishing tool at
