I have been working with the Marantx PMD660 over the past week and I can tell you all one thing. Avoid this piece of equipment at all cost. It has the worst Audio Amplifiers I have ever seen in a piece of equipment this expensive. Marantz has lost me as a customer for LIFE!
Quite honestly I would like to take a hammer to it. That’s how mad I am. But it appears that their are a lot of other dissatisfied customers out their with this piece of equipment.
Supposedly Marantz is aware that they have some very unhappy customers and I am hoping they recall the units and replace the amplifiers. I used a bunch of microphones with it and the best combination I found was a Shure Beta 58A with the Amps turned up 1/4 this gave me a recording that had a baseline of -40db of noise. This was the best it could do.
I’ll be honest my IRIVER IFP-790 Audio recording quality was better than the Marantz PMD660 and the IRIVER was 6 times cheaper. Marantz should be ashamed of themselves for putting this piece of trash on the market place.
