Show Downloads are at a crawl and servers are melting!

Posted by geeknews at 6:55 PM on June 28, 2005

I just checked my latest Libsyn Stats and downloads are through the roof. I am getting reports that sites like Dawn and Drew are down, servers have melted all over the podcasting sphere. Thus far this site which is hosted on a GoDaddy server has kept up and we have seen over 300,000 individual hits to this site alone today.

I know that at least 6500 people on iTunes have downloaded the newest show so this is significant traffic. Be patient with the downloads as servers are getting hammered worldwide.

My guess on the server slam is cause of the new ipodder lemon (version 2.1), for windows, anyway. It tried to download the last 4 months worth on one minute tips.
My guess is the auto cleanup, if you set it for a few feeds ( WHY, oh WHY isn’t it in the general properties????) then it downloads EVERYTHING that you are subscribed to?? Boy is it MESSED up.
I DO like the show notes are now available if you right click a download! That’s very cool.

Which could also be why LibSyn is now offering the bittorrent downloads as well.
