Apple I want to know when you are going to put a stop to this kind of abuse in the iTunes Podcasting directory in the Technology, News section.
Why this particular website can not play fair like everyone else and has to use “-|-” naming tactics to get listed first is beyond me. Second many of those multiple categories have 1-2 shows listed. This is just a directory spamming tactic.

Apple needs to get a handle on this and the folks over at the offending site need to be ashamed of themselves.
Here you have 100′s if not 1000′s of sites that cannot get into the directory no mater how hard people try and yet you have one website that has 20 scrupulous listings. Apple you need to fix this!

Hi
Fully agree. I noticed the same problem the other day. Also have you noticed that the same podcasts seem to appear under different podcast names. – Silicon Valley, ITC and InfoTalk.
I rate the content of the ITC podcasts so I bear it but like you I wish Apple would get a better grip on the directory structure of iTunes.
You should check out the comedy section. It’s an sea of special-characters-before-the-name in that section of iTunes.
Alot of this is based upon different topics and categorization of the feeds for the InfoTalk series. There are many problems with feeds and namespaces relative to content categorization and uploading to multiple platforms. PodTech.net has a primary show and is continuing to develop out an enabling infrastructure to innovate the distribution. Yes I did decide to use a “bullet” and the content will all be categorized when the namespace and directory services updates. I’m happy to talk with anyone who is working in this area.
I’m surprised that a site like geeknews goes out and points the fingers at people as abusers and spammers before contacting me. You lose alot of credibility.
These entries did not just happen by themselves. They had to have been submitted that way with the intention to have them all listed. They were not in the initial directory release. They have been in the directory for at least a month this way. Updates happen within 48 hours when you make changes to a RSS feed.
The intent was obvious and easy to rectify and likely would have stayed that way until pointed out. The tactic is most defnitley list spamming their are others that are doing it also. This is as much Apple’s fault as anyones for not fixing this.
Yes having that channels is intentional and I have good content to fill in all those channels. The issue that I was referring to was some of the content from some channels being listed in others is an issue. That is being worked on my end and will be fixed shortly.
But I am intentionally adding channels for my shows and for others who wish to be listed by topic/channel.
There are some new things and new innovations that are being developed that will continue to make podcasting easier and provide a better user experience. Apple has issues and we all know there are innovations that need to be in place. My company is investing alot of money in building out new technology to make the podcasting experience similier, easier, and more pleasant.
I totally agree with you. When Searching the Term “Apple” in the iTunes search directory it shows in the top four featured podcasts shows that arnt even apple related, Wether apple computers or even apples you eat. See what i mean by searching it, The guy thanks apple in his podcast desciption and Apple Gives him high honers, that crap pisses me off. Ok off my soap box. People are abusing it and apple is letting them,
I see this sort of thing all over the iTunes podcast directory. It’s really annoying and it’s one reason I don’t use iTunes as a podcatcher.
Of course, if they had just named their feed “1 Great Podcast,” they would have achieved the same thing, but I agree that the special characters are really annoying.
