Well, since I'm considered one of those "kids" for a few more months, I would say that my peers are complete idiots and should not be allowed to even touch an Internet connected computer half the time.
That being said, if you kid has common sense, you shouldn't have a big problem. I openly post my real name but I don't post my home phone or cell phone like most teenagers do. The only number I post is the number to my VoIP account. But, then again, I’m not stupid.
This whole “Myspace is evil” thing started with the Dateline episodes on how the predators met some dumb kids on Myspace. Well, every girl they had on that show was under the age your allowed to sign up anyway, so whose fault is that?
I seem to feel that parents are blaming Myspace because they don't look into what their kids are doing. I mean, what do you see on Myspace that is so different than what you’re seeing in real life? Your kids holding beer bottles, your daughter showing too much skin, and kissing.... OTHER GIRLS!?!
If you’re surprised to see stuff like that on Myspace, then you must have been locked up for a few years and never listened to your kid. It's not like we need the Internet to do bad stuff, at least with the Internet YOU can see what we are doing, unlike the real world.
So, everyone, relax, and go watch some TV with your kid and ask them what they did in class, how there friends are doing. Tell them not to smoke, drink, and do drugs.
Then read about how much they hated your talk on their Myspace blog. :)

I for one will be teaching my daughter as she grows up. Personally, I would keep doing what you are doing.
<span class="mt-export2wp"></span>
Now this isn't from expirience as my daughter is only 16 months.
