Not sure the author of this blog post really understands the nature of the SplashCast channel RSS. At its basic level it is almost the same as "MyCast" user generated feed in that both mix media from a number of feeds to create a new feed. The only real differences is that the SplashCast player is portable and embeddable on other website, thus justify the need for making that feed accessible wherever player is posted.

If splashCast is guilty of producing a new RSS feed that mixes media and chances the original feeds, than RawVoice is as well. For that matter FeedBurner, FeedRinse, or the user generated playlist in Odeo.

RawVoice is doing the same as SplashCast!

If the prayer is portable and embeddable, like the SplashCast channel player is, than the RSS feed for that player RSS should be made easily accessible as well.

Besides misunderstanding the nature of SplashCast's channel RSS feed, the author of this article also has posted an outdated diagram of the RSS feeds. No attempt to correct this miss information.

Forget that last comment Todd. I thought you were saying they modified the ID3 tags. Either way, it's WRONG.

Rock on Todd...

I was fine to let them work out the details on the feed. But changing the ID3 tags is taking it way too far. I posted this to their blog:

"I was fine to let you work out the details until I found out that you are changing the ID3 tags in the file to remove the copyright, change author, etc. In the software world, that simply amounts to stealing. If I grabbed Microsoft Office, modified the source code to change the splash screen to be “Ed’s Office”, removed the EULA, added pop-ups to redirect people to my site, and then redistributed to anyone I could find… don’t you’d think I’d get in trouble? This is what you are doing with our podcasts."

Of course, I wonder how many other podcast directories are doing similar things be it the feed or the ID3 tags themselves?

On the surface, it seems like a really petty issue, but as a blogger, I know how important it is to own your own feed. It's your line of communication with your audience. I understand Splashcast's need to make money, but the content creators should get the priority, when it comes to the distribution network that they are building. It's one thing to make a living, it's another thing to try and lock your content creator's audience, into your site.
