See this post for details about how to have us redirect requests to your FeedBurner feed if you ever wish to leave the service; hopefully that allays any concerns you (or your readers) might have. As you point out, using a redirect is always a great idea, but not all bloggers have that option. Consequently, we want to provide additional protection so that people can leave at any time (though we sure hope they don’t!).
