It's not really new. Maybe the way the service works is different, but this company was around back in 2002 and shut down for legal reasons. And they come back with a bang except for the fact, it seems they really don't have any deals in place with these companies.

Talk about a company jumping the gun. At least wait until a contract is officially signed, sealed and delivered.

I agree that the music and movie industries need to figure a way to get people want they want , but this theory of everything should be free is absurd.

I'd imagine if I took Todd's blog and podcast content as well as his book and built a website where I made money by just copying everything he's writen or spoke about, he would not be too happy. I'd essentially be making money off of stealing his content.

If somebody wants to download something or pass it along to a friend or many others after they purchased it, then they should be able to do that.

But a person copying a bunch of crap, putting it on a CD, and then selling it for 5 bucks to everybody else is illegal. And essentailly that's what this site would be doing if they don't get permission. They are copying content from others, then giving it away to people for free...

And I'm sure they'll have ads and a bunch of other promotions because of that content.

I do think the music and movie industries need to shape up and change. However I'm tired of hearing people complain about free this and free that. If everybody wants things to be free, well then stop getting sponsored by Go daddy, stop collecting pay checks, and let everybody else borrow your content and use it to make money while you really don't get a nickel in return.

Oh wait, when it comes to free, it's ok as long as it's somebody elses content.

Matthew,
TechDirt is reporting that it may not be that rosy:
http://techdirt.com/articles/20080128/02035986.shtml

Music labels are denying the deals - we'll see.
