And they are doing it to their least tech-savvy customers at that. As part of my job, I have purchased and set up dozens of new PCs from Dell in the last few months. These are purchased through our corporate account, and they all ship with a set of recovery discs. Ironically, we throw them in a box, and re-image them from a pre-built image. I absloutely hate the way PC manufacturers do this. And they are doing it to their least tech-savvy customers at that.

You can make a Hardware specific DVD for the computer right after you get back into it. This would be the same as having a disc on hand as if the manufacture (Acer in this case) had supplied one. They want you to return the machine to them so that they can charge you to fix it.
