Fujitsu Demo of Cholesteric LCD e-ink Screen – CES 2010

Posted by geeknews at 6:09 PM on January 26, 2010

Fujitsu was on had to demo its new Cholesteric LCD Screen which they liken the display to e-ink. The screen on this eReader is not as bright as I would expect and I think will be the biggest challenge this unit has in the marketplace. Everyone is so used to bright and crisp screens on devices that they own that I think it will be a big distraction. It does have a few things going for it.

The advantages of e-Ink is battery life, by running in black and white mode most of the time, then changing to color when required. This demo highlighted a technology available only in Japan.

GNC-2010-01-25 #546 Live from Jacksonville

Posted by geeknews at 8:28 PM on January 25, 2010

My time here in Florida is rapidly coming to a close and I will be heading back to Honolulu. I am suffering bandwidth withdrawals as the hotel connectivity is simply horrid. Someday Hilton will figure out how to keep their customers happy. But the Homewood Suites here in Jacksonville need to work on their bandwidth. Should be an exciting day on Wednesday we will see if all the fuss is worth it.

Mitsubishi integrating Vudu in LED TV’s CES 2010

Posted by geeknews at 7:55 PM on January 24, 2010

Mitsubishi is putting Vudu into it’s LED based TV sets. This is one step closer to having a full blown computer built into every television set. What is really exciting about this is that Vudu brings not only movies not available via your cable provider to owners of Mitsubishi sets but also alternative content just like Geek News Central. This was one of the more exciting announcements from CES.

LocalFoodReview.com

Posted by geeknews at 12:42 PM on January 24, 2010

Local Food Review is a new site that my wife and I will be posting to. It is something we have wanted to do for a long time. I purchased the domain over a year ago and have been trying to find the time to get it up and running. Today I am officially unveiling it and while it will only cover places that we eat and review over time we may add some folks to the site.

Traveling a great deal usually means I am eating out a quite a bit. This gives me the opportunity to review restaurants all over the country. This week I have been in Florida and I started writing up some of the locations I have been hitting. While i know this has nothing to do with technology. I wanted to give you all a spin on some other topics and interest I have.

Clear Wimax Update CES 2010

Posted by geeknews at 9:44 AM on January 24, 2010

Clear and their Wimax connectivity was a life saver at CES 2010. The service stayed online and maintained consistent upload and download speeds throughout the week.  The entire TechPodcasts.com crew was in my Suite sharing the connection without issue. I cannot say the same for Sprint during the week which was down 3-4 nights during the show. I have been using Clear Wimax in Hawaii and so far I have not had any issue with service in fact have been more pleased as we are farther into our roll-out.

RealRyder Exercise Bike CES 2010

Posted by geeknews at 9:30 AM on January 24, 2010

Getting fit in 2010 is the name of the game, beyond walking 20 miles a day at CES Andy McCaskey decided he needed a little more exercise during Startup Debut. So he jumped onto a RealRyder for a quick lap around the bar. You will see in the video why the RealRyder is called what it is called. I don’t suggest that you do this with 20 pound s of batteries and other gear in your photographers jacket.
