Posted by Alan Buckingham at 6:44 PM on January 26, 2011

If you live in a location where making a connection to your wireless provider is difficult then you may already have looked in something called a Femtocell.  If you aren’t familiar with that term then think of it as basically a booster for a cell signal.  Femtoforum is an organization that works to oversee the use of femto technology and to ensure standards are being met.

Our strategic goal is global recognition of femto technologies as the de facto solution for mobile coverage in the home and to drive worldwide take-up of such technologies.

Femtoforum representative Andy Germano takes a few minutes to to give an overview of how the technology is being used and where it is headed in the future.

Fling an Analog Controller for the iPad

Posted by KL Tech Muse at 6:38 PM on January 26, 2011

Ten One Design introduced the Fling at CES 2011. If you like to play games on the Ipad but find the virtual joystick hard to maneuver, then the Fling maybe exactly what you are looking for. It is an analog joystick that is made out of flexible resin ,machined aluminum and two suction cups.

Start your favorite game and then place Fling over the virtual joystick. The suction pads will stick insuring that Fling does not move. Then just start playing your game, Fling will give you a direct response, allowing you better control and accuracy. The Fling is transparent so you don’t miss any of the action in the game. It will work even if you use a screen protector on the iPad. Great for games such as Meteor Blitz, Across Age, Super Mega Worm, along with a ton more. Once you are finished with the game, the Fling comes off your iPad easily and stores in its own micro fibre bag. The bag can also doubles as an iPad screen cleaner.

The response for the Fling has been so good that they are now selling a two pack for $29.95 and a single pack for $19.95. If you like to play games on your iPad, the Fling is a must have.

You can also charge through the mini-USB cable that is included. The battery output 5VDC and has an input power of 5V 1000mA.

They also offers a P-flip Foldable Power which charges through the USB cable only and is a little smaller. Both the P-Flip Foldable Solar Power and the P-flip Foldable Power can extend talk time up to 8 hours, music up to 60 hours, video up to 15 hours and gaming up to 15 hours.

When the iPhone  reaches a full charge the light flow stops and the charger shuts down. This can save up to 85 percent of the standby power, when your device is not charging. This is a fast and easy way to know when your device has finished charging and save some money while you are at it.

Worth Avenue Group Insures Your Precious Toys

Posted by Andrew at 6:27 PM on January 26, 2011

Warning this interview contains scenes of extreme violence as Jeffrey takes a hammer to an unsuspecting laptop and iPod Touch to demonstrate the Worth Avenue Group‘s insurance policies for electronic devices.

Unusually, in addition to coverage for accidental damage, their policies also include protection for virus infestations under their vandalism clause. However, read the small print on the Group’s website to see if the product is suitable for you.

Prices vary according to the device being protected, but examples would be around $60 for an iPhone, $30 for a laptop.

zBoost Signal Amplifier for Cell Phones

Posted by Alan Buckingham at 6:15 PM on January 26, 2011

zBoost, made by Wi-Ex, looks very similar to a WiFi router, but instead of broadcasting or repeating WiFi, it boosts a cell signal.  At CES they showed off a new model, called the Metro, which was made for urban dwellers. It can boost the signal in an apartment, but no so much that it allows all of your neighbors to jump on it as well.

There is also a multi-band model which covers all wireless providers.  Setting one up in your home is as easy as following the simple instructions.  zBoost products are available at most big-box electronics stores as well as online from such retailers as Amazon.  The Metro retails for $299 and other models prices vary.
