In order to stop the vunerablilty mentioned in "Firefox users easier to spoof from phishing scams!" goto about:config in firefox and toggle network.enableIDS to false. JFYI :)

I feel for your problem with your scanner/fax/printer not working with your Mac. I have one of those printers at work and when we upgraded to Service Pack 2 on XP the driver died. HP told me uninstall SP2. So I have a printer/fax/printer from HP that will not work with my Windows box. HP what's up with that?
