Foolish Webmasters blocking Browsers!

Imagine you try to load one of your favorite websites and you get this message.

"An error has occurred : banner ad blocking. Check the settings of your browser or firewall then reload the previous page."

Seems dafonts.com is set on pissing off his users. The webmaster has enabled site view blocking if your using a Ad blocking program. I cannot imagine having to do that. Thats like cutting your own wrist. If he needs money he should ask for it the site is a great resource I am sure people would drop money in the tip jar.

Here is what Asa had to say. "Webmasters, listen up. Respect your users or you will lose them. With Firefox, the user is no longer just a spectator, he's a participant. Play nice or face extinction. Seriously."

I concur with Asa's comments and hopefully this foolish activity taking place at dafonts.com will cease.

Actually, I just went to the site (using Firefox with Adblock with Filterset.G) and its not "site view blocking" per se because it only gives that error message if you try to download any of the ("free") fonts, not if you're just browsing their website. I suspect the way it works is that there's a script on the page that pings their server with your IP address when it loads an ad and then your IP address is added to a 'whitelist' of people who can download; if not, you get to view the 'no soup fonts for you' page ;)

I think it's fair - if users can block ads, the site can block downloads. But it would be much user-friendlier to display a message offering to continue with the download in exchange for a micropayment (such as BitPass) or perhaps a donation (such as DropCash?).

I'm confused. I look at this site (which I swear I've looked at before), and all I get is search results. There is nothing to download from the site. So, what's the point then? The only blocking I'm doing is with my hosts file that blocks known ad sites. I still get Google ads and such, but... Oh well.
