I had issues when upgrading firefox, too. It would surf, but it was unusable, because of no buttons, all the text was jammed up. It took a while, but I think that the issue was a theme, I had installed. There's also I firefox /safe mode startup in the start menu, which would allow me to at least start it. Good luck!

Regarding the Wal-Mart laptop riots: Todd, you were spot-on about the availability of a better laptop for just a few more dollars elsewhere. I just saw an ad at dell.com for some model of the inspiron for $499. Isn't that just $100 more than the one at Wal-Mart? I think I saw one of those "Black Friday Madness" ads for some laptop at Circuit City that was $199, the catch being that you had to also buy 12 months of AOL. Of course, that was just during their 5 hour sale or whatever it was.

You can't add upgrades to this Dell at order time (which really sucks because 256MB RAM really isn't enough these days) but for somebody that really needs an entry-level laptop, this wouldn't be bad.
