What was Podshow Thinking Hijacking my RSS Feed!

First things First, if you have a Podcast that is listed on Podshow then you going to need to hope that people that visit that site dig around pretty deep to find a link to your home page, as it is buried beneath a couple layers of web pages. Currently there is no home page link on your show listing main landing pages.

Also forget about having people subscribe to your RSS feed, because Podshow has Hijacked every listed podcasters RSS Feed stripped out data and inserted there own info. Feel Free to visit this page and look at my RSS feed that has been Hijacked under the Podshow Domain!.

I am sitting here beyond pissed, not because they have my site automatically listed on their site that is fine because they are a directory, but in the way they have done it, this makes people assume that my podcast is part of Podshow, and diminishes my brand. They have made it near impossible to get to my home page from their site unless your really digg it's 100% unacceptable.

I can accept almost anything, but the RSS feed Hijacking has me angry. Podshow also needs to put a disclaimer by every show that is not under contract with their network indicating such. Ohh if you don't have Javascript enabled don't bother visiting there site.

Update: I am now noticing that they have pulled out all the copyright information from my feed and everyone elses. They are doing this with all of our properties this is asking for big trouble. Time to get on the phone...

Update: A lot of people are starting to weigh in on this Croncast, Michael Geoghegan, Dave Winer, Paul Colligan

Update: Podshow has corrected the issue and now links go back to the owners feeds.

Hi Todd,

I agree with you about the xml feed hijack.. really bad practice. But as far as getting to your site, Podshow's page is almost identical to Odeo's. In fact they're both similar to Podcast Alley in that they do provide a direct link to your site right there. Granted, Podshow and Odeo link to geeknewscentral.com/podcasts while PodcastAlley provides a link right to the homepage.

On a slightly lighter note, what is with the lime green text on Podshow's site?? And putting it on a grey background is just... well... stupid. I'm no web designer but that puppy is hard to read!

Keep up the good work. And glad to hear you're proud of the personal family content on your show, that's one of the main things that differentiates podcasting from mainstream radio.

Oh my god, when you released BluBrry, I was able to get signed in right away, I can even get an account created to check it out more.

As far as the feed goes, I have been following your example and am protecting those feeds. They do have a link, but isn't that obvious.

That comment wasn't worded right.

I can't even create an account on Podshow right now. Looks like a major bug somewhere.

Hi Todd.

Just wondering how you felt about our version?

We'll be adding an interstitial page soon with a list of chicklets to subscribe with.

Then, naturally a way to add your feed to a member's directory, once we open that up.

Cheers! Shame we didn't get longer to chat at GD.

This is the first day of the public beta. Please be patient with the podshow folks and give them the benefit of the doubt. I truly doubt that feed processing and other errors in programming are intentional.

The downside on protecting your content the way it has been described is that you are shooting yourselves in the foot. The feed will be corrected shortly, and Podshow is likely to give many feeds an audience that they would otherwise not have. By blocking the URL, this affects the Podcast more than Podshow. The podcasts will likely be removed, and then you'll be back to square one at your Podcast marketing.

I think they have started a fix for the problem.
