I read a post on Dave Winers blog that says "Yes Virginia, Macs crash too" some of you may or may not know but I got a 17 inch MacBook Pro, and although I am not experiencing crashes the MacBook Pro is hanging during video editing and importation of HD video.
My experience has been that during import of the HD Video iMovie periodically just hangs, and requires me to force the application to close. What is the deal with that and that was with the computer only doing that single task.
Guess what a computer is a computer is a computer. They all hang, crash and make you mad does not matter if its a windows box or a Mac. More later on using OS-X [Dave Winer]
Update Seems Scoble has seen some of this Hang activity as well, makes me wonder why we have not heard other people bitching about this. [Scoble]

It is true Todd - Macs do crash. In fact my my Mac crashed on me only a few months ago. It was such an unusual occurrence I even blogged about it (http://www.tomrafteryit.net/my-mac-crashed/).
I had thought Macs never crashed 'cos in the six years of running OS X before that none of my Macs had ever crashed.
Just goes to show, even Macs crash (although once in six years is probably acceptable!).

It doesn't happen often, that's why you don't hear about it. The reason it hangs or crashes (90% of the time) is because a third party software program is having a problem.
Since I install and uninstall 20-30 programs a week on my iMac it happens to me once a month or so. I just look at my console and find the software and uninstall it. That normally takes care of it.
Bottom line is you don't hear about it Todd because it doesn't happen often, but you can make a mountain out of a mole hill if you try real hard Todd. :-)

I have experienced a lot of hangs while working with iDVD. I wanted to burn the DVD after finishing my iDVD project, and it took hours and hours to process it. I watched the process and saw it taking full CPU. The app crashed in between, without giving any error messages. I then had to start with a fresh iDVD project, and import the movies directly.
Didn't expect it to work this slow and hang on a Dual Core with 2GB RAM!
In my experience of using the Macs over the last five years, I haven't seen too many crashes - but yes, a few hangs now and then. Just like Linux!

One of the biggest problems with HD is the file size! I hope you have 2 gigs of ram if you intend to edit a lot of HD content!! My Athlon 3200+ with 2 gigs of ram is brought to its knees anytime i try to edit HD video, so i use Sony's trusty on camera conversion to downcode it to SD which makes me and the computer happy. Plus it still looks excellent due to the quality of the camera and lens.
