262,080 Junk Comments in the past 30 days

I am amazed by the number of Junk Comments that get submitted to this blog by someone running a script. Fortunately the MovableType Junk filter has worked terrific. Dealing with this though requires a significant number of server resources and results in wasted traffic.

I did not realize that the problem was as big as it was until I started tracking it last month. I only had to manually mark 12 comments as junk that the software did not catch so overall I am pretty pleased.

One thing that has dropped of considerably is trackback spam, which used to be worse than comment spam.

I love the spam filter on hosted Wordpress, better than Movable Type by far.
