Dave Winer Weighs in on Feedburner!

If you have read this blog for anytime you will know that I am not a proponent of FeedBurner. My reasoning has always been why would you trust one of your most valuable online assets to a third party.

Many people are in Love with Feedburner, for some it is the holy grail of online services. While that love may have diminished a little bit now that Google technically owns all of the feeds on the service.

The points Dave raise are very valid and we will have to watchdog Google to make sure that feed manipulation and modification of the RSS specification does not take place.

I would gamble that Dave has heard rumblings of enactment of some of the things he talks about. Scripting.com

Jon, you say Dave makes some valid points. But what exactly are these points? That it could turn off support for RSS, so you could only read Feedburner feeds in Google Reader? Why would it do that, when it would lose it a big chunk of advertising business (placing ads in RSS)?

I can't actually find a coherent argument from Dave here. All I see is him warning about unspecified "dangers" without actually thinking through any scenarios.

"I would gamble that Dave has heard rumblings of enactment of some of the things he talks about."

I would gamble that he hasn't. Of course, if your gamble is based on anything but guesswork... then let's see your evidence. Otherwise, it's just meaningless speculation, I'm afraid.
