For a very long time I have been disgusted at the pace of the wireless network development here in the United States, you travel to Europe, Asia and the features and service levels you get with your wireless phone are amazing. I am sitting in my office in Honolulu and finally just last week Sprint started rolling out EVDO here. The slackers at Verizon are talking out both sides of their mouth and say it will be sometime next year.
On my drive home from work on, one of the major highways here my cell phone drops carrier no less than 5 times, this is on a major highway in a state that has less than 50 miles of interstate highway. Today I am reading a press release from Cingular where they are going to start letting people pay for merchandise with their telephones via contact less point of sale terminals.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but did you know that you can buy almost anything out of a vending machine with your cell phone. Did you know you can take a picture of a item in Japan with your cell phone and they have a services that will tell you were the best price can be found on the item.
The wireless system in the United States is second rate and we are getting beat like nobody’s business in innovation by our friends in Tokyo. Maybe we need a Japanese wireless company to setup business here in the United States and teach these companies how to use technology. [Cingular]
