FloLight Stretches the MicroBeam 1024 Even Further

Posted by JenThorpe at 3:27 AM on April 26, 2012

FloLight was at NAB 2012. They are the company that makes the MicroBeam 1024. What they have done is taken all the good things about the MicroBeam 1024, and made it into a slimmer rectangular shape.

The newly shaped light is called MicroBeam 1024LP. The LP stands for “low profile”. It is designed to give you everything that the MicroBeam 1024 has, but in a more accessible form. You can use the MicroBeam 1024LP in places that the original cannot be used because of the shape of the original light. It is designed to be used in rooms that have low ceilings, in conference rooms, or anywhere else that does not give you enough space to use a 1 x 1 light in.

The new MicroBeam 1024LP has the same features as the MicroBeam 1024. The only difference is that the LP version is easier to use in a smaller space. This allows people who are working on a professional filming project to choose the version that fits best into their production without having to sacrifice any features. The MicroBeam 1024 and the MicroBeam 1024LP the same, except for their sizes.

Features of the MicroBeam 1024 and MicroBeam 1024LP

* Equivalent of a 1000W “Hot Light”
* Offers both high light output and a high CRI
* The CRI of the Daylight version is 93
* Choose from Daylight version (~5600K) or Tungsten version (~3200 K)
* Both versions have Spot (~30º Beam) and Flood (~60º Beam) available
* Full dimming control
* They are 1024 Ultra Bright Daylight LEDs
* The LED lights are rated at 25,000 hours
* Mounting Yoke
* Optional V-Mount battery adapter
* External 12 VDC Input
* 110 – 240 VAC Power adapter included
* Slide-on filter holder and slide on Barndoors are sold separately
* Uses only 100W of energy

The NAB Show was a Success

Posted by KL Tech Muse at 7:39 PM on April 24, 2012

NAB Show The National Broadcast Association (NAB) show ran from April 14-April 19 in Las Vegas and Geek News Central was there to cover it. The NAB is a lobbying or advocacy association for America’s broadcaster. It works to advance the interest of radio and television in legislative, regulatory and public affairs. It also works to educate and promote innovation so that broadcasters can better serve their community. The NAB continues to support traditional media while embracing the changes that new media is bringing.

The NAB show is the largest electronic media show, unlike the Consumer Electronic Show(CES) which concentrates on consumer products, NAB is a show set up for the professional who works in media behind the scene. The initial numbers from the show are starting to come in and despite a still slow economy it appears the NAB show was a success. They had a 10 percent increase in size over 2011. There were 1,600 exhibitors with 815,000 net square feet of exhibit space used compared to 1,550 exhibitors and 745,000 net square space used in 2011. There were over 92,1112 registered attendees with 24,928 coming from outside the US representing over 151 countries.

The NAB show is where you see the equipment that makes the movies, television shows and radio that you watch or listen to better. NAB will be back in 2013 and I am sure Geek News Central will be there to cover it.

It’s been a big couple of days for Panasonic at the 2012 NAB Show in Las Vegas – announcing a slew of new products and strategic partnerships that boost the broadcasting chops of this tech giant.

Leading the Panasonic pack of announcements is the new AG-HPX600 P2 HD camcorder with 10-bit, 4:2:2 AVC-Intra recording and boasting the lowest weight of a shoulder-mount unit.

“With its ultra-light weight and low power consumption, the HPX600 is the first shoulder mount that’s easy on the shoulder while being super-efficient on battery usage,” said Joseph Facchini, Vice President, Panasonic System Communications Company of North America. “With its innovative design and selectable options, the HPX600 is upgradable to new technology such as wireless remote from a smart phone and much more.”

Weighing in at less than 7 pounds with noticeably low power usage, the HPX600 uses a newly-developed 2/3 type MOS sensor to produce HD and SD images. This future-proof camera aims to provide inventive functionality and improved workflows, with options such as wireless metadata input, proxy recording, and variable frame rates (available Fall 2012), and subsequently AVC-ULTRA recording.

According to Panasonic, the AG-HPX600 will be available in the Fall with a starting price around $16,000 for the body alone.

New Cards; Projectors; and Partners

In addition to the light-weight AG-HPX600, Panasonic also unveiled a new series of 64GB and 32GB microP2 cards – designed for high-speed transfers, reliability, and the writing assurance of all P2 frame rates, formats and codecs. Panasonic also announced the microP2 Card Adaptor, both slated for availability next Spring.

Other new products announced at NAB this week by Panasonic:

  • the PT-DZ21 3-chip DLP projector series – the world’s smallest and lightest 20,000 lumen projectors;

Canon Showing Off 30-inch 4K Industrial Video Display at NAB

Posted by Alan Buckingham at 10:11 AM on April 13, 2012

Canon has announced that from April 16-19 they will be at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show that is taking place next week in Las Vegas.  One of the big new items they are bringing with them is a 30 inch industrial video display that handles the next-generation 4K video standard.

“Canon is currently developing a 30-inch 4K resolution industrial display as a 4K video output device realizing faithful color reproduction and high-resolution, high-contrast performance. Canon will exhibit a prototype of the video display from April 16 to 19 at NAB Show 2012, the world’s largest international digital event for audio, video, film, broadcast and communications, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A.”

This is strictly a prototype of a monitor that is still under development, so don’t expect to see it on the market any time soon.  However, there has been talk of the movie industry moving to 4K in the future and Canon plans to be prepared for that possible inevitability.  Canon does specify that, while they don’t have pricing or specifications available at this time, they have every intention of having this new display on the market before the end of 2012.
