GNC-2008-01-05 #332 CES Back Channel #1

The Geek News Central back Channel will be a series of videos Andy McCaskey and I will be putting out that are essentially behind the scenes look of what it takes to cover CES. These are not meant to be high quality. They are being recorded on a Flip Video camera.

The content should be a lot of fun because we are going to record it and put it up as we can. The back channel videos will be intermixed with the professional videos and Interviews that we will be producing.

GNC-2008-01-05_2 #333 CES Back Channel #2

As we are heading out the door to go to the first big event. I want to leave you with a little chat Andy and I had this morning at breakfast. Standby for the regular content as we are saddled up and ready to go.

GNC-2008-01-05-1 #334 Pinnacle Video Transfer Press and Go

Pinnacle Systems had a very impressive new product at CES Unveiled. The demonstrated their new "Video Transfer" product dubbed Press and Go.

Press and Go is a very good term for this device and it is brilliantly simple to use. You can plug and Analog Video feed into it and encode real time into a Apple iPod, Sony PSP, USB Memory stick.

They were playing a "Home DVD" ;) and encoded it real time into the Sony PSP, iPod, Memory Stick. While not the first product to do this Neuros has a device that will do similar thing the price point on this will definitely compete with Neuros.

GNC-2008-01-05-2 #335 Kreative Power Strips

We all have trouble with Power Strips. A number of innovative power strips have been rolled out in the past couple of years. But the folks over at Kreative Power Strips have come up with a new innovative way to handle the variety of power needs we have today.

GNC-2008-01-05-4 #336 Novatel U7272 USB EV-DO Card

I am a big fan of Novatel USB EV-DO cards and was chomping at the bit to get a look at the new one that they have out.

The new card is the U727 and what makes this USB EV-DO stick special is that not only does it have a antenna port that they are known for but you also no longer need to run through a splitter to run the USB device on two USB connections which an older model required.

The next thing that makes this device nice is a port for 4gb memory card so the U727 can double as a memory device. For those on Sprint it also has a built in GPS which will allow you to use the card with mapping programs.

Retails for $79.99 with a two year contract on either Sprint or Verizon. I personally like the slime design and new antenna configuration.

GNC-2008-01-05-5 #337 Yoggie PC Security in a USB Stick

What if I told you that you could remove all virus protection from your computer. Disable any firewalls and replace all of that technology with a USB stick that would re-route your internet connection through the Gatekeeper Pico card and provide you the same level of protection.

Yoggie Security has a new device that they claim does just that. Their thought is you can remove all of the spyware, virus and firewall protection software and have a faster computer by protecting your computer with their USB www.yoggie.com

GNC-2008-01-05-6 #338 Spot Satellite Messenger plus Global 911

Spot is a product you are going to want to keep your eyes on. This device allows you to communicate from anywhere in the world. Imagine you are in the Sahara and you want to leave a message to family and friends that you are ok.

Imagine that you are crossing the ocean alone and want someone to track you. Well Spot satellite Messenger allows your position to be updated every 10 minutes and if you get in trouble Global 911 is available.

The folks at FindMeSpot.com have contracted with a global rescue company that will come get you need help or give local authorities your location.

This device is what I consider a must for those that have para-gliders or any other sportsman or outdoor person that wants to be found, send a message, be rescued you name it. The price is so cheap no family that goes on a camping trip where cell coverage is not available needs one.

The unit cost 149.95 and a yearly fee of $99.95 check their company out at findmespot.com

I am very proud to accept this award, it is largely my listening audience that makes the show great, they are all part of my Ohana (Family). I have always strived to make the Geek News Central website, and podcast a great resource to go for information on Technology, Science and Podcasting. I work very hard to come up with informed opinions on topics I cover. My show is also a venue to get the word out on what we are doing at my company RawVoice. I have a team that works tirelessly to make sure that Podcast creators that we work with are treated fairly in the podcast business space.

I want to thank all of you for being such large supporters and thanks to the folks over at podcast.com for considering and awarding the show.

GNCV-CES- 2008 NRG Dock Product Overview Consumer Electronics Show 2008

We caught up with Jay Leboff and talked about NRG Dock Personal Solar Solutions. This is the first green solar product I have seen that is specifically targeted at re-charging your portable devices. The idea for the product was hatched after he was without power during a storm for several days and needed a way to recharge his cell phone and other portable devices.

This product line works with those in rental units or who own a home of their own very clean and slick this is probably one of the most innovative solar products I saw at the Consumer Electronics Show 2008

From their website "NRG Dock’s® photovoltaic cell charges its power station, storing energy for whenever you need it. NRG Dock’s® regulator ensures the proper voltage for powering and/or charging personal communication devices - including laptops."

Check out their site at www.nrgdock.com

GNCV-CES-2008 Intel Menlo Processor at Consumer Electronics Show

Intel has an exciting new processor chip that will be in all new Ultra Mobile PC's in the coming months. Bringing more power, lower heat and significantly reduced power consumption. While I got to touch one of the chips I was not able to keep it.

What this chip is going to do is cause Ultra Mobile PC to get smaller and provide more power to the end user. Next year when we go to CES we will have Menlo powered UMPC in our back packs streaming live.

Really exciting stuff coming from Intel and we will have a whole slew of vendors putting out UMPC with the new Intel Menlo processor.

MyxerTones is a great way to make and share ringtones and wallpapers you can get thousands of ringtones and wallpaper from their website and most are available at no charge. You can even make your own ringtone to share with your friends and family.

They are integrated such that you can deliver content from your webpage or myspace account.
